Principal’s Weekly Message

September 6, 2024

Dear Morse Pond families,

The first week of school saw our halls once again filled with smiling faces and the energy of students engaged in classrooms.  The beautiful weather also allowed students to enjoy recess and outdoor activities as they bonded and began to form classroom communities.  These first weeks of school are so important for students and staff to form relationships, creating a culture of trust in the classroom.  I saw many fun, engaging activities this week that gave students the chance to create new connections and learn about the people they will spend so much time with this year.  We also want to extend this important work to all of our families at our Meet Your Teacher Night on September 25!

Updates

*School Council:  We are looking for parents/guardians to serve on the school council this year.  School council works with the principal and takes part in critical work like school success plan goals and budget development.  If you are interested in serving on the council, please email Mr. Adams directly at:  [email protected]

*Work on Gifford Street:  Road work is underway on Gifford Street that could likely cause some traffic delays into the winter season.  Please plan for arrival and dismissal accordingly.

*Chorus and Band Letters:  Please see the attached letters from Mr. Fietek and Mr. Borning about joining the band or chorus this year.  Band and chorus are offered during the school day as part of student electives held at the end of the day.  Mr. Borning also offers instrument lessons during the day as part of student schedules.  Students who do not elect to take band or chorus will have a rotation through the other specialist teachers to explore deeper learning.

Reminders

*Arrival and Drop Off:  Bus schedules can be found on the district website.  If you are driving your child to school, or picking them up in the afternoon, you will be able to enter the driveway at Morse Pond after buses clear.

Vehicle morning arrival time:  8:20

Vehicle afternoon arrival time:  3:05

Please do not park along Jones Road, in the Royal Nursing driveway, or in the entrance to the Grasmere neighborhood while waiting for buses to clear.

*Bus passes:  No bus passes will be issued during the month of September for students to ride a bus different from their own.  In addition, the following buses cannot accept passes, until further notice, due to the large number of regular riders:

LAW/MP BUS 1

LAW/MP BUS 4

LAW/MP BUS 19

LAW/MP BUS 24

LAW/MP BUS 2

*Meet Your Teacher Night:  Parents, guardians and students are all invited to attend this event on September 25 beginning at 6:30.  More information will follow.  As part of the evening, your child will give you a tour of their classroom and you will view a presentation from the classroom teacher.  This event is not intended to be an individual conference about your child.  Conferences will be held later in the term as we near the first report card.

*Boosterthon Fundraiser:  You should have received the first email blast about our fundraiser today 12:00.  The first task is to register your student and learn more about the program.  The culminating fun run will be a great event that all students will enjoy!
